We won GOLD at national industry awards and that’s not all …

Not only were team GLH presented with a GOLD award at the 2018 Professional Driver QSi Awards, it was in the category closest to our hearts – Community! And we are the only organisation to win an award every year since they began in 2013.

The reason we’ve grown from a family-run minicab service to an international organisation (which remains family-run) and traded for 52 years is because of the way we look after our people – whether they are corporate clients, vulnerable passengers or our communities.

We’ve worked with Archer Academy for many years now and in 2018 we helped selected pupils build their confidence, increase their aspirations and engage better with school life through residential working farm experiences, extra tuition and the brilliant Being a Man festival. We were also proud to donate free transport to local volunteers and as raffle prizes, help our local nursery’s children ‘reach for the top’ by helping to finance a new games area and climbing wall. We invested in specialist medical training for drivers so that we could provide even better transport to patients and vulnerable members of our community. And, of course, we’ve continued to promote and support our colleagues’ and clients’ fundraising initiatives, as well as holding in-house events for the causes that have touched our lives.

Professional Driver Editor Mark Bursa said: “GLH has, incredibly, made the final three in this category every year since the QSi Awards started back in 2013, But until this year, GLH had never scooped Community Gold. For an outstanding, deep-rooted involvement with its local north London community, GLH is our champion for 2018.”

“Its activities include sponsorships of local schools, local charities aimed at improving anti-social behaviour or low self-esteem among young people, disability charities and help for homeless people. This is all done not as a publicity stunt, but as an integral part of the company’s ethos.”

Mark Bursa added: “Recent advances include disability and medical training for drivers, and GLH has set up an internal counselling facility for employees, offering advice and support on family issues, debt, work, addictions and legal matters.”

GLH Sales and Customer Relations Director, Zoë Walsh said, “These awards are national and we are up against some of the biggest providers in the UK so to win an award for the sixth year in a row is incredible – and the fact that its in the Community category is the icing on the cake. The reason we describe ourselves as ‘the car and courier service that takes absolute care’ is because we have always tried to show that in everything we do – from encouraging our teams to take a little more time to give advice or find out if they can make our customers’ lives any easier, to supporting our local communities and causes year-in, year-out.”

We were also very proud to be shortlisted for our pioneering environmental work and for the prestigious Private Hire Operator of the year award.
