For anyone who doesn’t already know, Think Pink is a charity that encourages and supports women to join the transportation sector. We’ve been proud to work in partnership with them since their inception, supporting their efforts and helping them secure:
- online training, covering topics such as legislation, health and safety, basic life support, conflict resolution and awareness
- insurance discounts
- free tax returns
- a supportive community of female drivers
- free mobile SIM cards
- free uniforms
As the cost-of-living crisis has hit women particularly hard, due to structural inequalities, the timing of this support couldn’t be better.
A shortage of drivers since Brexit and a growing number of female passengers preferring to be driven by women, shows there is a clear case for increasing female drivers in the transportation industry.
While women are currently under-represented in the sector, a professional driving career offers flexible hours, good career development opportunities and can be very rewarding.
Driving the gender gap conversation
Our Director, Zoë Walsh is one of the few female directors in the industry and she volunteers on the executive board of Think Pink.
GLH’s efforts to buck the gender trends in our industry are paying off. Considering less than 7% of UK taxi / private hire drivers are women, GLH has a workforce that is 44% female and leadership that is 36% female.
