In preparation for London’s Ultra-Low Emissions Zone, private hire and courier company GLH have announced that they will go one step further by operating a fleet of electric, zero-emission vehicles.
The family-owned firm who celebrated their 50th anniversary last year, and are known for industry-firsts when it comes to managing their environmental impact and emissions, have acquired eConnect Cars Limited.
GLH were the first London cab company to operate a fleet of low emission hybrid vehicles and will be trialling the electric cars with their customer base from this month. Should they be unable to send an electric vehicle at any point during the trial due to popular demand, they will still be able to supply a hybrid vehicle so that customers can always avoid contributing to London’s toxic air pollution levels.
Zoë Walsh, Sales and Customer Relations Director, GLH said, “As Londoners are increasingly aware – and concerned – about the lethal levels of air pollution in our city. We applaud the Ultra-Low Emissions Zone and we also feel that, as a transportation organisation, we can do more and we would encourage others in our industry to follow suit. We are already carrying out pioneering work with The Energy Saving Trust to measure our emissions and efficiency in a way that can be comparable across the industry because we want customers to make informed choices when it comes to transportation.
“Having always admired eConnect for their company values and ethics, we are delighted about the acquisition and feel that it is a perfect fit for GLH’s business model. Our new fleet of electric vehicles is going to make a massive impact on our corporate customers with their own sustainability targets to meet, our local residents who want to do their bit to help lower London’s pollution levels and – ultimately – to the environment and future generations. We would encourage everyone to take advantage of our trial period and see just how smooth and enjoyable these state-of-the-art cars are to travel in.”
Alistair Clarke, who founded eConnect cars in 2013 added; “It is fantastic that eConnect cars has found such a great new home with GLH. A company with a long history of corporate social responsibility, that can apply its significant resources and reputation to drive the switch to electric.”
